Biography
Bensio was the eldest son of the ruler of Carcassonne and Raza Oliba II , who died around 879 [1] . Since Bensio and his younger brother Akfred at that time were still underage, the management of both counties passed to their uncle, Count Akfred I. Historical sources do not report anything about Bensio's life until 906, when after the death of his uncle, he gained power over the Carcassonne and Razesky counties. [2]
Bensio's reign probably lasted a little over two years. He died no later than November 3, 908. This follows from the charter of the king of the West Frankish state Charles III the Simple , given to the abbey of Sainte-Marie-de-Lagras , which confirmed the transfer of some of Carcassonne’s possessions of the count to the monastery made earlier by the “blessed memory of Bensio” [3] .
It is not known whether Bensio was married or had children. The new ruler of Carcassonne and Raze was his younger brother Akfred II [1] .
