History
Special camp No. 2 (address “PO Box 384”), for political prisoners, was organized by Order No. 00219 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of 02.28.1948 on the basis of the camp premises of the Norilsk ITL . Conditional name "Mountain" was assigned later, from 05/10/1948. The maximum number of prisoners in Gorlag is indicated on January 1, 1952 - 20,218 people, of whom 2075 were sentenced to hard labor (data as of January 1, 1954). The correlation between the “special contingent” (convicted under political article 58 of the Criminal Code ) and the so-called “general contingent” (convicted under other articles of the Criminal Code ) can be judged from the data as of February 1, 1953: 63 “house-keepers” were accounted for 20,082 political prisoners.
In May - August 1953, the Norilsk Uprising broke out in Gorlag.
Gorlag closed June 25, 1954, combined with the Norilsk ITL . Gorlag should not be confused with Norillag , since throughout the existence of Gorlag, Norillag continued to act. If the former mainly contained political prisoners, the latter was predominantly “domestic workers”.
