Life and work
J. Palant studied at various schools, attended several universities, including the Arras (1879) and the Paris Lyceum of Louis the Great (in 1881). In 1883-1885, receiving a scholarship. studied philosophy at the University of Douai , then taught philosophy in 1885–1888.
J. Palant was influenced by the ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche and is considered one of the first "left Nietzscheans." Later, he also embraced the teachings of Max Stirner and Sigmund Freud . In 1900 Palant began to publish his works in print, they were translated into foreign languages (in 1893 he published his essay in German. The social question is a moral issue - La Question sociale est une question morale ). Until 1916, he wrote articles for the French Philosophical Review ( Revue philosophique de France et de l'étranger ), and in 1911-1923, for the French Revue Mercury ( Revue du Mercure de France ). Since 1901, the philosopher has published articles and essays on the topic of individualism - Combat pour l'individu (1904), Sensibilité individualiste (1908), Pessimisme et individualism (1914) and others. In 1908 and in 1919, Palant put forward his candidacy in the local elections in Saint-Brieuc , but to no avail.
Suffered from acromegaly . In 1925, committed suicide (shot himself). His pupil, the famous writer Louis Guillau , bred him under the name "Cripur" in his biographical novel Black Blood (Le Sang Noir, 1935) . In addition to L. Guilloux, the philosophical ideas of J. Palant were developed by such scientists as Jean Grenier and Michelle Honfre . The latter began his learned career by writing a monograph on the then largely forgotten "French Nietzsche" by J. Palante.
Philosophical Heritage
The worldview of J. Palant was marked by "radical individualism." He perceived modern society as a straitjacket for its individual members. He rejected both democracy and theocracy as forms of government - as well as any form of violence or abuse of power in society. Due to the fact that the philosopher did not believe in the possibility of building an ever perfect, free society, as well as in the fact that an individual can be a full member and defender of such, J. Palant was considered as one of the bearers of the ideas of nihilism .
