eMachines is an entry-level personal computer brand that has been owned by Acer since 2007. EMachines initially hired approximately 135 employees and sold between 1-2 million computers each year before competing Gateway Computers bought it on January 30, 2004. Gateway Computers was acquired by Acer, and the name eMachines continues to be used to name personal computers.
Since 2012, the brand has not been used.
History
eMachines as a brand appeared in the USA in 1998, supported by Korean monitor manufacturer Korea Data Systems, Korean computer manufacturer TriGem and many other investors. The company announced computer models at prices of $ 299, $ 399, $ 499 and $ 599 for everything except the monitor. At that time, few personal computers sold for less than $ 699, and $ 999 was more than the usual price for entry-level computers. The first units were shipped in November of the same year.
At the end of 2011, Acer CEO JT Wong announced the company’s transition to a new development strategy, according to which the company’s attention will be focused on more expensive ultrabooks and other mobile devices of the highest price category [1] . At the Russian press conference of Acer on May 24, 2012, it was announced that the eMachines brand was “frozen so far” and “there will be no new products with this logo,” however, the possibility of returning to the brand was still allowed [2] . And in January 2013, the decision to complete all operations related to the eMachines trademark [1] was officially confirmed.
