Biography

He was born on November 11 (24), 1907 in the village of Napolnoe [1] in a peasant family. Russian He studied at a parish school, showed abilities and, on behalf of the priest, taught the lessons himself. After graduating, he worked as a shepherd, a letter-carrier. In 1927 he was elected a member of the board, and then chairman of the Voskhod livestock partnership. Since 1929 he worked in the district consumer cooperation system as a store manager, director of procurement offices. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1932. In 1937 he was appointed chairman of the board of the Sarajevo district consumer union.

Since the beginning of World War II, he was not mobilized, since back in 1929, when passing the medical commission, he was declared unfit for military service. In October 1942, after he received a funeral for his brother, he voluntarily went into the army through the Sarajevo regional military commissariat. In April 1943 he graduated from the Leningrad Red Banner Military-Political School. F. Engels, evacuated to the city of Shuya ( Ivanovo region ), in 1944 - Vladimir Infantry School .

Since May 1944, he participated in the battles of the Great Patriotic War on the 1st Ukrainian and 1st Belorussian fronts. In July 1944, while fighting in the ranks of the 165th Infantry Division, he was wounded and was awarded the medal “For Courage” . After the hospital he was sent to the 143rd Infantry Division. He was wounded again, but returned to his unit. Particularly distinguished when crossing the Vistula River .

On January 15, 1945, a company of senior lieutenant Baranov, breaking through the enemy defenses in the vicinity of the village of Stara of the Warsaw Voivodeship and chasing the retreating enemy, skillfully organizing the battle and using firearms, was the first in the division to go to the Vistula River, reconnoitre the crossings and crossed to the left bank. It occupied a bridgehead, consisting of two enemy trenches, and saddled the Modlin - Warsaw highway. In a battle with Wehrmacht soldiers over the bridgehead, a company destroyed 5 vehicles with infantry and cargo. Reflecting a series of fierce counterattacks of superior forces, the company kept the line.

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 27, 1945 for courage, bravery and heroism shown in the fight against the German invaders, senior lieutenant Baranov Ivan Mikhailovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 6424).

After the Victory, he refused to be sent to study at the academy. Since 1946, Captain Baranov is in stock. He returned to his homeland.

Again began to work in consumer cooperation. From November 1946, he was chairman of Sarajevo, and from April 1949, the Rybnovsky district consumer union. Then he worked as head of ORS No. 23 on the construction of an oil refinery in the regional trade. He lived in the city of Ryazan . Actively engaged in public work, often met with youth. He was a deputy of the Oktyabrsky District Council.

He died on January 17, 2001.
