Begichev Islands

Begicheva Islands are two islands in the southwestern part of the Laptev Sea , at the exit of the Khatanga Bay . Administratively belong to Yakutia .

The islands were discovered in 1908 by the Russian sailor and traveler Nikifor Begichev and named in his honor.

Big Begichev

The island is 61 km long and 57 km wide. The maximum height is 201 m. The surface is a gently sloping plain covered with tundra vegetation . The fox and deer are being fished.

Small Begichev

7 km west of Bolshoi Begichev, through the Pioneer Strait , Maly Begichev is located. The island is 5.2 km long and 4 km wide. The surface is covered with many small lakes .
