“Set Fire to the Rain” is a song by British singer Adele from her second studio album, “ 21 ” . The song became the third single from the album and was released on CD November 21, 2011.

The song might not have become the third single from the album " 21 " , as Columbia Records was planning to release another song: "Rumour Has It". However, this idea was later abandoned, as “Set Fire to the Rain” turned out to be 1/3 more successful as part of a separate track digital distribution according to Soundscan data over the recent period. In total, Set Fire to the Rain sold more than 4 million copies and is already ahead of the previous single, Someone Like You , released from the album 21 on January 24, 2011 and sold 2.7 million. [1] . Adele was awarded the Grammy Award in the category " Best Solo Pop Performance " for the live version of this song [2] .

Commercial Success

"Set Fire to the Rain" was very popular in Europe, where it hit the top ten hits in countries such as Austria, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Finland, France and Switzerland, and reached the top of the chart in South Africa, New Zealand, Belgium Poland, Slovakia, Netherlands. [3] . The song debuted at No. 79 in the UK Singles Chart [4] and a week later reached No. 44 with a circulation of 6.286 copies [5] [6] . She later reached eleventh place in the UK (July 16, 2011), remaining in the same position for two weeks, adding 24.978 more copies to the print run [4] [7] .

Even before the release of the song in the form of a single, it hit the American Billboard Hot 100 chart , where it spent 6 weeks and re-entered it 3 times, reaching its peak on position No. 72 on September 13. February 4, 2012 “Set Fire to the Rain” rose to first place on the Billboard Hot 100 and became her third hit in a row, which hit the top of the American charts from album 21 [8] . In total, this is 21 weeks in a row for a song that eventually reached first place in the US [9] [10] . By June 2013, 4,552,000 digital copies in the United States were downloaded [11] . With this achievement, disc 21 was included in an elite group of five albums, from which at least three singles immediately reached No. 1 position in the USA in the last decade. Previously, they were: Katy Perry and Teenage Dream (5), Rihanna and Loud (3), Taylor Swift and 1989 (3), Justin Bieber and Purpose (3).
