San Juan Cancuc ( Spanish: San Juan Cancuc ) is a municipality in Mexico , Chiapas , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . The population according to the 2010 census was 29 016 people.

Content
General information
The name consists of two parts: San Juan - in honor of St. John , and Cancuc - from the Nahuatl language can be translated as star quetzal .
The area of the municipality is 162.3 km², which is 0.2% of the state. It borders with other municipalities of Chiapas : in the north with Pantelo and Sitala , in the east with Chilon and Ocosingo , in the south with Oschuk , and in the west with Tenehapa and Chenalo [3] .

The municipality was formed on August 23, 1989 [4] , it consists of 37 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic activity
The working population is occupied by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture and livestock - 95.1%, manufacturing and manufacturing - 1.6%, services and tourism - 2% [4] .
Infrastructure
According to statistics from 2000, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- length of roads: 116.8 km;
- electrification: 76.4%;
- water supply: 37.3%;
- water disposal: 2.4%.
Tourism
The main attraction is the church of St. John , built in the colonial period, as well as the scroll stored in it, telling about the uprising of the Indians in Tseltal in 1712 [6] .
