Biography
Born on January 6, 1831, the son of a major general of the Separate Corps of Gendarmes Vladimir Ivanovich Grave .
He was educated at the School of Guard Ensigns and Cavalry Junkers , and was released on August 8, 1850 as an ensign in the Life Guards Finland Regiment .
Produced as lieutenant on April 11, 1854, in the same year, Grave was in the ranks of the corps assigned to protect the Baltic Sea coast from possible landing of the Anglo-French troops and on December 6 received the rank of lieutenant .
From May 12, 1859 he was a senior adjutant to the headquarters of the 2nd Guards Infantry Division. On April 17, 1863, he was promoted to headquarters captain and subsequently took part in the suppression of the uprising in Poland .
August 30, 1865 promoted to captain. From May 29 to September 1, 1868 he was a junior headquarters officer at the 2nd Guards Infantry Division. August 30 of the same year promoted to colonel .
September 15, 1873 Grave was appointed commander of the 120th Infantry Serpukhov Regiment , at the head of which he fought with the Turks in Bulgaria in 1877. On August 19, 1877, during the first assault on Plevna , he received a severe concussion (Starchevsky mistakenly reports that Grave was killed) and was sent to the rear for treatment. On October 31, he was enlisted in the army infantry and in reserve troops. For military distinctions, Grave was promoted to major general (with seniority on August 19, 1877) and was awarded a golden saber with the inscription "For courage" .
Upon his final recovery, Grave returned to service on December 4, 1879 and was appointed the Novgorod Provincial Military Chief. On September 24, 1881 he was appointed head of the 2nd local brigade, on August 30, 1886 he was promoted to lieutenant general, and from April 22, 1890 he commanded the Kazan local brigade.
He died in early 1900, is excluded from the lists on January 23.
