Biography
Monument to Edmund Rich in Oxford
Edmund Rich was educated at the University of Paris and Oxford, and from 1214 he was at Oxford University. In 1227, Edmund preached for participating in the Crusades. In 1233 he becomes Archbishop of Canterbury. At this church post, E. Rich often came into conflict with King Henry III , as a result of which he fell out of favor and in 1240 left for France, in the monastery of Pontity . In 1240, he died in Soissy on the way to Rome, where he was about to make a pilgrimage.
In 1246, Edmund Ebindong was counted as a saint. In 1253, the Church of St. Edmund was consecrated in Dover. Day of veneration of St. Edmund - November 16th.
