History
One of the oldest fishing tackle, a fishing rod to this day firmly holds the first place in popularity. Historians believe that this type of fishing largely predetermined the development of fishing art as a whole.
Ancient people, observing rivers and lakes, noticed that the fish periodically rises to the surface and grabs insects, leaves and berries that have fallen into the water. Probably some of them figured out how to use it. The first fishing rod appeared - a stick, to which a coarse cord is attached with a large bone hook at the end. Of course, this tackle did not differ in elegance, but, on the other hand, the fish in ancient times was not frightened, unfamiliar with fishing tricks, therefore it was even caught with such a fishing rod.

Today there is no fisherman who would not at least once hold a fishing rod in his hands. The main reasons for this popularity are the versatility and ease of use of this wonderful gear. Almost any fish in the middle zone of Russia is caught on a fishing rod. This tackle is so versatile that it allows you to catch in the early spring and late fall, both large predatory fish and not large "white" fish. It allows you to catch both from a boat and from the shore, and be successful in both cases. A fishing rod is an excellent tackle for both the beginner and the experienced fisherman.
Classification
Over the many centuries of its existence, this type of fishing has received several branches. The differences between these subspecies of the “fishing rod” are very noticeable from the combination of gear used (using a reel) to the features of each such gear separately (length of the rod, the presence of rings on the rod, etc.). There are 3 main subspecies: Match, Bologna and Fly fishing.
The peculiarity of “ match fishing ” is a specially shaped float, a special 3-section fishing rod with rings and an inertia-free reel with a special “match” spool providing long-range casting. Also an important feature is the use of specialized sinking fishing line.
A feature of Bologna fishing is a telescopic fishing rod with rings, the use of an inertia-free reel (of any kind from the spinning to the carp), as well as the presence of a floating ring at the end of the rod, which reduces the load on the tackle.
“ Fly fishing ” - is a “classic” float fishing technique. In this subspecies of the “fishing rod”, a rod without rings is used and a reel is not used.

In rare cases, when narrowing very large fish, a braided nylon cord can be used instead of fishing line.
