Zagan Range

The ridge stretches in the east-north-east direction, mainly on the right bank of the Khilok River ^[1] . In Buryatia, the ridge’s watershed is the natural boundary of the administrative regions — Bichursky and Mukhorshibirsky . In the middle part, the ridge intersects along the pass of the same name on the regional highway P441 .

The length of the ridge is 130 km ^[2] . Width - from 15 to 35 km. The prevailing heights are from 1000 to 1100 m ^[3] , the maximum is 1382 m ^[2] . The ridge is composed of granites , granodiorites , granosyenites and crystalline schists ^[1] mainly of the Early Paleozoic age . The relief is dominated by midlands, in places low mountains with river valleys embedded in them ^[3] . The watersheds are wide, gently undulating. Pine forests grow on the southern slope, larch taiga prevails on the northern ^[1] .

The name of the ridge comes from the Zaganka River, the left tributary of the Mukhorshibirka River (left tributary of the Sukhara River ), and its upper right component, the Old Zagan River , along the valleys of which there is an old road south from Mukhorshibiri through the Zagan Pass to the valley of the Khilok River.
