Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht , more correctly Eggebrecht ( German: Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht ; January 5, 1919 , Dresden - August 30, 1999 , Freiburg ) - German music theorist , lexicographer and teacher, one of the most authoritative German musicologists of the XX century.

Biography and Research
After the end of the Second World War (he took part in hostilities in the Crimea and lost one eye [3] ) in 1945 - 1948 . He studied with Richard Munnich, Hans Joachim Moser and Max Schneider in Weimar , Berlin , Jena . He defended his doctoral thesis on Melchior Vulpius in the University of Jena in 1949. From 1951 until the end of his life, he taught musicology at the University of Freiburg (since 1961, an ordinary professor and dean of the music department). In 1955, in Freiburg, he defended his second thesis ( Habilitation , scientific consultant Vilibald Gurlitt ) on the topic “Studien zur musukalischen Terminologie”. In 1956-57 - Head of the Department of Musicology at the University of Heidelberg . Since 1964 - Chief Editor of the authoritative musicological journal Archiv für Musikwissenschaft. The editor-in-chief (after Gurlitt’s death) of the Sachteil volume of the 12th edition of Riemann’s Musical Dictionary (1967), which was radically revised into the theory of music [4] ; I wrote a number of installation articles for this dictionary, including the article “Musik” (S. 601-604).
For many years he collaborated with K. Dalhauz (including writing together with him the popular brochure "What is music"), acted as co-editor of the new (and last) edition of the Riemannian dictionary, entitled "Brockhaus-Riemann-Musiklexikon". In 1972-1999, he was the editor-in-chief of the Dictionary of Musical Terms (Handwörterbuch der musikalischen Terminologie), which to this day remains exemplary in terms of musical lexicography and the methodology of historical study of terms.
Among the students of Eggebrecht are the famous German musicologists Fritz Rekov (Reckow), Reinhold Brinkmann (Brinkmann), Albrecht Rietmüller (Riethmüller) and Peter Andraschke (Andraschke), the composer Wolfgang Rome and others.
The main scientific interests of Eggebrecht are musical terminology, musical aesthetics (mainly the problem of the relationship between music and words), the history and theory of music of the Western European Middle Ages, German music of the Baroque era (especially G. Schütz ), the history of organ-making and organ music. Books and articles Eggebreht translated into many European languages (except Russian).
