History

2012-2013: Era of Andre Igudala

On February 22, 2011, after months of negotiating that he wants to leave the Nuggets, Carmelo Anthony was sold along with other players ( Billups, Chauncey , Anthony Carter , Shelden Williams and Renaldo Balkman ) to the New York Knicks . The Minnesota Timberwolves team was also included in the deal. In exchange, the Nuggets received Wilson Chandler , Raymond Felton , Danilo Gallinari , Timofey Mozgov and Costa Kufos . On the day of the transaction, the Nuggets had only 9 players in the application with whom the team played against Memphis Grizzlies . In the match, “Denver” won with a final score of 120-107, and in the game the difference in the score reached 27 points. In the last minutes, exclamations were heard: “Who needs this Melo? ( Carmelo Anthony - Approx . Author ). ” According to the results of the match, George Karl noted: “Our guys, being in a difficult situation, usually play at a very high level. We always get out of difficult situations well. ” Some noted that the Nuggets will now become Cleveland in the West, as they sold a key player with whom they could count on a series of playoffs. However, as a result of the transaction, the team even intensified. Taking into account new players, the team gave 24.1 assists per game, which was an indicator of a good team game. The game in defense also improved: rebounds increased - before the Nuggets deal they gained 97.1 rebounds, after - 105.2 rebounds [1] . The team used 18 starting five options for the season, while winning 50 matches per season. For the fourth consecutive season, the team won 50 matches per season, which was the best result for the entire existence of the team. As a result, she came out from 5th place in the playoffs of the Western Conference. In the first round, the Nuggets went to the Oklahoma City Thunder , to which they lost with a total score of 1-4.

With the departure of Carmelo Anthony, a new leader appeared in the team - in the first half of the season he became Danilo Gallinari , who on average scored 17 points, 5.2 rebounds per game, and also gave 2.6 assists in 25 matches. As a result, for the Nuggets, the first 20 games of the season were the most successful start in the league. However, Gallinari then suffered injuries to his ankle, thumb and wrist, and the Nuggets were to seek new reserves. It was decided to rejuvenate the team through the sale of Nene , who spent 10 years at the club at the Washington Wizards . In exchange, the team received extravagant center Jawale McGee [2] . McGee also had an unstable game, making stupid mistakes, and as a result did not become a Washington base player. In Denver, McGee got the opportunity to start all over from scratch and became one of the key players. In his debut game for the Nuggets, he made a dunk through Arron Afflalo , after he missed, and his throw became decisive (116-115) in the victory over the Detroit Pistons . In the last two Denver matches in the playoff games against the Los Angeles Lakers , McGee made double-doubles , gaining 16 points and 15 rebounds, and 21 points and 14 rebounds, respectively. As a result, the Nuggets made a comeback, losing in the series 2-0 to the score 3-3, but failed the seventh game and lost with the score 87-96.

On August 10, 2012, the Nuggets were involved in a deal between the four clubs, eventually getting the All-Star Game player Andre Igudal , sending Afflalo and Al Harrington to Orlando Magic . As part of the same deal, they gave Dwight Howard to the Lakers . After that, Igudala tweeted : “I am happy to join the Denver Nuggets and know that my best games are yet to come!” [3]
