Internal intercostal muscles ( lat. Musculi intercostales interni ) - deep chest muscles.

They start from the upper edges of the ribs, then go up and forward. Attached on the lower edges of the overlying ribs, inward from the groove of the rib. Internal intercostal muscles are located in the anterior intercostal spaces, in the rear they are replaced by internal intercostal membranes ( lat. Membranae intercostales internae ) [2] .
Function
Participate in the act of calm exhalation [3] .
