Medal Regulation

The medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus" should be awarded to all participants in the defense of the Caucasus - military personnel of the Red Army, Navy and NKVD, as well as civilians, direct participants in the defense.

Awarding of awards is carried out on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of data certifying the actual participation in the defense of the Caucasus.

Handing over is made:

  • to persons located in the military units of the Red Army, Navy and NKVD troops, as commanders of military units, and to persons who have withdrawn from the army and navy, by regional, city and district military commissars at the place of residence of the awarded;
  • persons from the civilian population — participants in the defense of the Caucasus — the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territory Councils of Workers' Deputies, the Presidiums of the Supreme Councils of the Georgian SSR, Azerbaijan SSR, the North Ossetian ASSR and the Kabardin ASSR.

The Medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus" for military personnel and civilian personnel of units, formations and institutions of the Red Army, Navy and NKVD troops was awarded only to those who actually participated in the defense of the Caucasus for at least three months from July 1942 to October 1943.

The “For the Defense of the Caucasus” medal was awarded only to those individuals from the civilian population who participated in the defense of the Caucasus from July 1942 to October 1943, as well as those who took an active part in the construction of defensive lines and fortifications since the fall of 1941.

To the participants of the defense of the Caucasus, both from among the military personnel and from the civilian population, who received injuries or were awarded orders or medals of the USSR for the defense of the Caucasus during the defense, the medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus" was awarded regardless of the duration of participation in the defense.
