The Church of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir is a small pillarless chapel church adjacent to the Assumption Cathedral of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery from the east.
The temple is the family tomb of the princes Vorotynsky , being originally built over the grave of Vladimir Ivanovich Vorotynsky , close to Ivan the Terrible , to the contribution of his widow. It is worth noting that the chapel churches in Russia appeared only in 1548 (the church above the tomb of Hegumen Nikon in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra ), and the burial of secular feudal lords with the erection of the church above them is a later phenomenon (XVII century), which says about the uniqueness of the building in a historical context. The notorious message of Ivan the Terrible to the Cyril Monastery is directly related to the temple.
Description
Structurally, the temple is built very simply, if not primitively. The ceilings are arranged by a system of stepwise rising arches, which are crowned by a very small, in comparison with the general dimensions of the temple, light drum. The exterior design is copied from the prototype - the Assumption Cathedral, although there is some simplification. Almost without any significant changes, the main volume wedding scheme was repeated by kokoshniks , who barely fit over a small aisle. At the moment, due to the simplified roofing of the 19th century, kokoshniki cannot be seen either in the church of Vladimir, or on the Assumption Cathedral, or on the Epiphanius of Cyprus church . By the time of construction in Moscow temple architecture, a number of innovations had appeared, both structural and architectural and decorative, however, despite the visiting masters (local builders could hardly have accurately assembled the facades and sharply draw design details), the innovations did not affect the construction of the temple. In general, this is a stylistic community characteristic of large monasteries of that period.
The western wall is almost completely closed by the late extension - the porch. From the east, another church-chapel of the Assumption Cathedral is attached - Epiphanius of Cyprus Church , which is a late enlarged copy of the temple.
The decor is traditional - blades dividing into barns decorated in the upper part with the usual brick decor for the monastery, which is repeated in the upper part of the drum. Under the bulbous head, covered with a metal share , but before the decor there is a ring with the inscription.
