This list contains the names, period of life and professional data of all military personnel and political figures who held military posts who were awarded a personal military rank [1] , later the military rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union.
The title Marshal of the Soviet Union was introduced on September 22, 1935 by a decree of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR "On the introduction of personal military ranks of the commanding staff of the Red Army", introducing for the personnel of the Worker and Peasant Red Army (Red Army) and the Worker and Peasant Red Fleet (RKKF ) personal military ranks. From paragraph 3 of this resolution: "To establish the title" Marshal of the Soviet Union ", personally assigned by the Government of the USSR to outstanding and especially distinguished persons of the High Command". On November 21, 1935, for the first time, the personal rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union was awarded - the highest military rank, which was awarded to the military leaders who proved themselves in the civil war : K. E. Voroshilov, A. I. Egorov, M. N. Tukhachevsky, V. K. Blucher and S. M. Budyonny.
Until 1945, it was the personal highest rank in the Red Army , in the subsequent period - the previous highest rank of the Generalissimo of the Soviet Union .
The military rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union was excluded from the list of military ranks in 1991, in connection with the collapse of the USSR . In the Russian Federation , the successor of the Soviet Union, in 1993 the military rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation was established .
The title of Marshal of the Soviet Union was awarded 41 times, of which 36 - to professional military men, 5 - to political figures. The last time the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union was awarded April 28, 1990 D.T. Yazov .
There is evidence that in February 1945 the title Marshal of the Soviet Union was to be awarded to Ivan Danilovich Chernyakhovsky , but he died a few days before the promulgation of the relevant decree [3] [4] .
