Range

The area is the warm coastal waters of the Indian Ocean and the western part of the Pacific Ocean . In the west, the species lives from the Red Sea to southern Africa , in the east it can reach Tonga and southern Japan [1] There is evidence that the grouper was found in the Haifa region of the Mediterranean Sea [2] . It lives to a depth of 60 m, sometimes up to 150 m, and can live in mangroves , lagoons and reefs in salty and brackish waters [3] .

Fish 1–1.2 m long, less often up to 2 m. The length of the largest recorded specimen is 2.34 m with a mass of 150 kg [4] . The basis of nutrition is small fish and crustaceans , less often cephalopods .
