Muratov, Dmitry Andreevich

Dmitry Andreevich Muratov (born October 30, 1961 , Kuibyshev ) is a Russian journalist , one of the founders and former chief editor (from February 1995 to November 2017 ) of Novaya Gazeta .

Biography

Born on October 30, 1961 in Kuibyshev .

In 1983 he graduated from the philological faculty of Kuibyshev State University .

In 1983 - 1985 he served in the army.

After military service, he worked for the Volzhsky Komsomolets newspaper. In 1987, he became head of the Komsomol life department of the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper. In 1990, he became editor of the publication’s information department.

In November 1992, he left KP and simultaneously co-founded the 6th Floor Journalists' Association, which included journalists who disagreed with the newspaper’s new editorial policy. The following year, the partnership became the founder of the New Daily Newspaper, the first issue of which was released on April 1, 1993 . Muratov joined her editorial board and became deputy editor-in-chief.

In December 1994 - January 1995 he was a special correspondent for the newspaper in the war zone on the territory of Chechnya .

In February 1995, he became the editor-in-chief of the publication, which at that time was simply renamed Novaya Gazeta.

For some time Muratov combined work in the newspaper and on television. So, in 1997 he was the host of the Press Club program (ATV - ORTV), in 1998 - 2000 - the host of the weekly trial “The Court is Going” on the NTV channel [1] .

In 2004, he was one of the founders of the Committee “2008: Free Choice”. In 2005, he left the Committee, saying that he was “absolutely disappointed with the way the Democrats tried to unite” [2] .

In 2004 he joined the Russian Democratic Party Yabloko .

In 2005, he became one of the co-owners of the Crocodile magazine [3] . However, already in 2008 the publication of the updated magazine was suspended [4] .

In 2009, he joined the Public Council in support of the election list of the Yabloko party in the elections to the Moscow City Duma of the fifth convocation.

In 2011, he was included in the election list of the Russian United Democratic Party Yabloko under 101 numbers.
