The first Soviet SLR camera supporting automatic exposure control [1] . It is one of the first SLR cameras equipped with shutter-priority automation . However, such automation was implemented with the help of an already obsolete exposure meter with an external selenium photocell . In Japan in 1965, a similar camera appeared with a similar mode of operation of automation, based on the built-in external CdS exposure meter - Konika Auto-Reflex.
In total, about 50 thousand copies were produced.
Specifications
- The case is metal with an opening rear wall. Trigger cocking shutter and film rewind. Partial cocking lock, automatic self-resetting frame counter. Rewind film type roulette .
- The cassette slot is directed towards the upper panel of the camera, and the rewind tape is located on the lower panel. The tape measure and the film rewind shaft are connected by a transmission .
- The type of photographic material used is type 135 film in standard cartridges. Frame size 24 Γ 36 mm.
- Photographic shutter - lamellar fan type, with balancing device. Both curtains consist of three metal petals [2] . On Soviet cameras applied for the first time. Shutter speeds from 1/2 to 1/1000 sec and β B β.
- The viewfinder is mirrored, with a fixed pentaprism . The viewfinder frame window size is 22 Γ 34 mm [2] . Mirror of constant sight . The focusing screen is a Fresnel lens with a micro-raster circle and a frosted ring in the center.
- The lens mount is an original design mount with a working length of 44 mm [2] . Later it was used only in the Kiev-15 camera and allowed to install threaded lenses from the Zenith through the adapter . An M39 Γ 1 adapter was included with the camera.
- There was no aperture ring on interchangeable lenses . The aperture value was set by the disk located on the camera body. The same disk turned on the automatic aperture setting mode .
- The regular lens of cameras of earlier releases is Helios-65 Avtomat 2/50. Since 1967, the device was equipped with a Helios-81 Avtomat 2/53 lens.
- Lens with a bounce aperture . Lens aperture up to f / 16.
- Sync contact βXβ, sync speed 1/60 sec or more. In early releases, there was no clip for attaching an electronic flash (a removable bracket was used).
- No self - timer .
- 1/4 inch tripod thread.
Automation Mode
The Kiev-10 camera is an automatic machine with shutter priority .
With a set film film sensitivity (from 11 to 500 units of GOST) and shutter speed (from 1/2 to 1/1000 s), the exposure meter automatically set the aperture .
The exposure device had an externally located selenium photocell ; therefore, the Kiev-10 camera did not need chemical current sources .
In the viewfinder's field of view, the automatic indicator worked out in automatic mode (or recommended for semi-automatic exposure setting ) was displayed with a pointer indicator. The exposure device was turned on by incomplete pressing the shutter button.
In low light, the shutter release button is locked. Exposure compensation is possible only by changing the set value of the photosensitivity of the film.

Interchangeable Optics
The Arsenal factory produced interchangeable optics based on lenses already mastered by the Soviet industry. For cameras "Kiev-10" and " Kiev-15 " were designed lenses with a "jumping" aperture , in the name of which there was the word " Automatic ".
Lenses for βKiev-10β and β Kiev-15 β cannot be fully used on another camera without serious interference with the lens design.

Further development
- "Kiev-11" (second half of the 1960s) - with a light meter transferred to the left side of the camera. Serially not produced.
- " Kiev-15 " ( 1976 - 1980 ) - developed on the basis of "Kiev-10", the same shutter and the same bayonet mount. The main difference is that instead of a selenium photocell, a TTL is used - an exposure meter based on cadmium sulfide ( CdS ) photoresistors . The device needed a current source .
Kiev-10 in the market
The Kiev-10 camera is a collectible .
The cost of the camera in the 1960s was 290 rubles .
