Vyr is an old Russian city on the Vir river in the current Sumy region of Ukraine (see Virskoye ancient settlement ). Mentioned in the " Teachings " of Vladimir Monomakh , as well as in the Ipatiev Chronicle in connection with the internecine war of the Grand Duke of Kiev Izyaslav Mstislavich with Davydovich and Olgovich . Vyri residents besieged by the army of Olgovichi firmly remained faithful to the Kiev prince, because of which the Olgovichi were forced to lift the siege and leave for Vyakhani .
There is an assumption that Vyr mentions under the name Fira (Cyrus) the Arab historian al-Idrisi [1] [2] .
Presumably, it was destroyed during the Batyev invasion in 1239.
Nowadays, there are the remains of an ancient settlement at the confluence of the Vir and Kryga rivers, near the city of Belopolie .
