“Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied” ( Sing the New Song to the Lord , BWV 225) - Johann Sebastian Bach Motet . It was written in 1726-1727, first performed in Leipzig in 1727 , first published in 1802 by Breitkopf & Härtel .

In the first part of the motet, the psalm 149 : 1-3 is sung, the second part is based on the third stanza of the hymn “Nun lob, mein Seel, den Herren” [2] 1525 by Johann Graumann [3] , and in the third part the psalm 150 is sung: 2.6 .
There is a known case of Mozart meeting this motet during his stay in Leipzig in April 1789 , described by Johann Friedrich Rohlitz in the Universal Musical Newspaper in November 1798 [4] [5] . The then cantor of the school of St. Thomas Johann Friedrich Doles (1715-1797) performed it together with his pupils in gratitude for the play of Mozart on the organ of Tomaskirche [6] . After the performance, the amazed Mozart exclaimed: “There is still something else to learn something from!” [7] ( German “Das ist doch einmal etwas, woraus sich was lernen läßt!” ) [8] , and then asked to study the written voices of this and other motets [9] [7] .
