New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans is a professional basketball club serving at the National Basketball Association . Initially, the year of foundation of the team was considered to be 1988 , when it began its performances in the city of Charlotte ( North Carolina ), however, after the Charlotte Bobcats changed its name to Charlotte Hornets in 2014 and became the successor of the team that played until the 2001/2002 season with by the same name, the official countdown of the history of this club began from the moment the Hornets moved to New Orleans ( Louisiana ) in 2002. Until the 2013/2014 season, the team retained the name Hornets. Due to the devastating Hurricane Katrina in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons, the team hosted home matches in Oklahoma City , Oklahoma and was referred to as the “New Orleans / Oklahoma City Hornets”. On December 4, 2012, the new owner of the team, Tom Benson, announced that in the 2013/14 season the team would change its name to New Orleans Pelicans. [1] On April 18, 2013, the team name was officially changed to Pelicans. [2] The NBA administration said that the name “Hornets” could be used by Charlotte, but it would be possible to change the name no earlier than the 2014–2015 season. If the change occurs, Benson will not claim compensation from Bobcats owner Michael Jordan [3] . The Louisiana flag and seal, from which New Orleans stands, also features a pelican .
