Zvecan ( Serbian. Zvechan ; Alb. Zveçan or Zveçani ) - a city in Kosovo [1] , is part of the Kosovo-Mitrovica District and in Northern Kosovo . Mostly inhabited by Serbs.

Old fortress in Zvechan

The city was first mentioned in XI century sources in connection with the Byzantine-Serbian clashes. The inscription of Stefan Nemani on the laying of the church of St. George in memory of a military victory. Then Zvecan was one of the residences of the Serbian kings, Stefan Decansky was imprisoned here in the fortress .
