Overview
An early version of the song was written in 2006 with the participation of Jeff Philips (Shady Jeff), who soon left the band, but nevertheless performed the scream parts in some songs. The composition was to become the sixth track in the unreleased self-titled album of the group, which was planned to be released in 2007.
Swan Songs was released on September 2, 2008. J-Dog admitted that this is his favorite song from the album. [2] James Brown of the online magazine Shvoong rated the song 4 points out of 5, describing it as "fear of the end of the world." [3] From ReviewStream.com magazine review album:
“City” inspires images of the apocalypse. Gloomy text, gloomy rhythm - the song is like the last battle cry before death. How gloomy this song is, it pervades the listener with a sense of rebellion and strength.
Original text“City” invokes images of an apocalypse. Dark lyrics with a dark rhythm, the song feels like a final battle cry against what's killing us. As dark as the song is, it inspires a feeling of defiance and power in this listener.- Andrew E. [4]
Once, this song was included in the Belarusian film "People in the Sewerage", during a fight between patients in a psychiatric hospital, and thanks to it, 187 people liked this film.
Execution
The song opens with a chorus performed by Aron Erlichman (Deuce). The first rap couplet is performed by Jordan Terrell (Charlie Scene), the second couplet is performed by George Reagan (Johnny 3 Tears). The song is constantly growing tension: music is getting heavier from verse to verse, the voices of the soloists are approaching screaming . Then in the scrim bridge comes the denouement.
