Maria Van Zandt ( born Marie van Zandt ; 1858-1919) is an American opera singer who, according to her contemporaries, possessed a “ small but brilliantly processed soprano ” [1] .

Biography and Creativity
Maria Van Zandt was born on October 8, 1858 in the city of New York to the family of Jenny Van Zandt , known for her work at the Milan Theater Scala and the New York Academy of Music . It was in the family that the girl received her first music lessons, then her studies at the Milan Conservatory , where Francesco Lamperti became her vocal teacher.
Her debut took place in 1879 in Turin, Italy [2] . After a successful debut, Maria Van Zandt performed at the Royal Theater Covent Garden . But in order to achieve real success at that time, one had to make his debut in Paris , so Maria signed a contract with Opera-Comique and debuted on the Parisian stage on March 20, 1880 in the opera “ ” by Ambroise Tom . Soon, especially for Maria van Zandt, Leo Delibe wrote the opera Lacme ; The premiere took place on April 14, 1883.

On the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, Marie van Zandt made her debut as Amina in Somnambul by Vincenzo Bellini on December 21, 1891.
In France, Van Zandt met and became friends with Massenet . She took part in home concerts organized in Parisian aristocratic salons, for example, with Mrs. Lemaire , who visited Marcel Proust , Elizabeth Grefful , Reinaldo Ahn , Camille Saint-Saens .
Marrying Count Mikhail Cherinov, Maria Van Zandt left the scene and lived in France. She died on December 31, 1919 in Cannes . Buried in the Pere Lachaise cemetery .
