Coffey County ( born Coffee County ) is located in the United States , Alabama . Officially founded in 1841 . As of 2000 , the population was 43,615 people. The administrative center of the district is Elba .

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,761.202 km 2 , of which 1,758.612 km 2 is land and 3.885 km 2 or 0.200% is water.
Population
According to the 2000 census [2] , 43,615 inhabitants live in the district as a part of 17,421 households and 12,490 families . The population density is 25.00 people per km 2 . There are 19,837 residential buildings on the territory of the district, with a building density of about 11.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: white - 77.11%, African Americans - 18.37%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.91%, Asians - 0.95%, Hawaiians - 0.09%, representatives of other races - 0.89 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.67%. Hispanic was 2.71% of the population, regardless of race .
32.10% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 56.50% of households are married couples living together, 12.10% of households are single women without a spouse, 28.30% of households households are not related to families , 24.90% of households consist of one person, 10.20% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.46 people and the average family size is 2.93 people.
The age structure of the county is: 24.80% younger than 18 years old, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64 and 24.10% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 37 years old. For every 100 females there are 95.50 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.00 males .
