Geography

42 km north-east of Kalinkovich , 4 km from the railway station Vasilevichi (on the line Gomel - Luninets ), 108 km from Gomel .

In the north is the Myadzvedka Canal (a tributary of the Vedrich River), in the south is the Luzhonka Canal (flows into the Medvedka Canal).

History

The ancient Iron Age settlement discovered by archaeologists (3 km to the north-east of the village) indicates the settlement of these places since ancient times. The modern village has been known from written sources since the 19th century as a village in the Vasilevichsky volost of the Rechitsa district of the Minsk province . Under 1825 and 1879, it was designated as part of the Vasilevich church parish . According to the 1897 census, a literacy school operated.

From December 8, 1926 to December 30, 1927 the center of the Novinkovsky village council Vasilevichsky , from August 4, 1927 Rechitsa districts of the Gomel districts. In 1929 a collective farm was organized. During the Great Patriotic War , an underground group operated (leader A.F. Frolov). In the battles near the village, 109 Soviet soldiers died (buried in mass graves in the cemetery and in the center of the village). On the fronts and in the partisan struggle, 146 residents died, the memory of them in 1963 in the center of the village a sculpture of a soldier and 2 steles with the names of the fallen were installed. According to the 1959 census, the center of the Iskra collective farm housed a sawmill, a mill, a sewing workshop, a 9-year school, the House of Culture, a library, a kindergarten, a feldsher-midwife station, a post office , a canteen, and 2 shops.

Transportation Network

Transport links on the country, then the highway Gomel - Luninets . The layout consists of a long, slightly curved street, oriented from southeast to northwest, to which a short street joins in the south, close to the meridional orientation. Apartment buildings are wooden, manor type.
