Name Origin
The name of the village of Visha comes from the Visha River, on which the village stands.
According to V.N. Toporov and O.N. Trubachev, the hydronym Visha is of Baltic origin and is approaching lit. Viešia [1] . A. Vanagas points out that a number of Lithuanian hydronyms, including Viešia, originated from the root vieš- with different extensions ( -t-, -n-, -men -): Viešėtė , Viešinta , Viešvė , Viešmuo . The meaning of the root vieš is - “flow, run”, especially considering lit. viešmuo "stream" [2] .
