According to the United States Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 1,453 km², of which 1,450.9 km² is land, and 2.1 km² or 0.14% are water bodies.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, there were 14,123 residents in the okrug, consisting of 5,590 households and 4,125 families. The population density was 10 people. per 1 square kilometer. There were 6189 residential buildings. The racial makeup of the population was 94.74% White, 3.7% Black or African American , and 0.77% were representatives of two or more races. 1.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
Of 5590 households, 32.8% raise children under the age of 18 years, 61.4% of married couples living together, 8.7% of single women, 26.2% did not have families. 23% of the total number live independently, 10.3% - individuals over 65 years of age, living alone. On average, each household accounted for 2.51 people; the average family size was 2.95 people.
The indicators for age categories in the district were as follows: 24.3% residents under 18 years of age, 8.2% from 18 to 24 years old, 28.5% from 25 to 44 years old, 25.3% from 45 to 64 years old, and 13 , 7% over 65 years.
