Starostin, Boris Anatolyevich

Born November 3, 1939 in Malakhovka. The son of the famous translator Anatoly Starostin , the brother of the linguist Sergei Starostin .

In 1965 he defended at the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology. S. I. Vavilova RAS dissertation for the degree of candidate of biological sciences "Angiosperms: Historical outline of Russian studies of angiosperms phylogenesis" ^[2] .

From 1970 to 2009 he worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology. S. I. Vavilova RAS .

In 1992, at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in the form of a scientific report, he defended a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the topic “The Formation of the Philosophical Foundations of Historical and Scientific Knowledge from Boden to Priestley” (specialty 09.00.01 - dialectics and theory of knowledge). The official opponents are Doctor of Philosophy, Professor A. L. Nikiforov , Doctor of Philosophy, Professor V. Ya. Perminov and Doctor of Philosophy, Professor R. A. Simonov . The leading organization is the Department of Science of Sciences, Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences ^[3] .

Since 1992 - professor at the Department of the History of Science of the Russian State Humanitarian University (taught the course "History of Science") ^[1] .

He was a member of the Moscow Society of Naturalists ^[1] , a member of the Academic Council of the Institute for the History of Natural Sciences and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences ^[1] , a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Natural Science Books in the Culture of Russia".

The author of about 400 works. He is the author of studies in the field of axiology , cultural studies , science of science, a systems approach, the history of ancient and medieval science, and geobotany . He also dealt with the problems of transcription of foreign names in the Russian text.

Translator of the “ Natural History ” part of Pliny the Elder (books 2, 3, 4, fragments in the “Reading Book on the History of Science and Technology” were published, the translation of several more books was deposited at INION ).

The editor and author of the notes to the translation of “The Stories of Animals” by Aristotle , made by V. P. Karpov (Moscow: Russian State University for the Humanities, 1996) ^[4] .
