Matches of the Russian women's volleyball team 2005

In 2005, the Russian women's volleyball team, under the leadership of the new Italian head coach Giovanni Caprara, took part in three official tournaments held under the auspices of the FIVB and the EKB .

Azerbaijan : Hasanova, O.Parkhomenko, Shabovta, E.Parkhomenko, Mammadov, Korkmaz, Korotenko - libero. Substitution: Agayev, Mammadyarov.

Due to its high rating, the Russian national team started in the qualifying tournament for the 2006 World Cup from the final third stage. For the first two places, which gave the right to a direct hit in the number of participants in the championship, four teams fought. The tournament was held in Moscow in a circular system and brought Russia the second final place. Thus, the qualifying barrier was overcome.

In their preliminary group, the Russian national team won the first place, and then, having won the Polish national team in the semi-final, secured their participation in the 2006 Grand Prix.

September 25th Zagreb ( Croatia ).   Russia -   Azerbaijan 3-0 (25:20, 25:10, 25:21). Match for 3rd place

Russia : Borodakova (7), Sazhin (9), Godin (12), Safronov (8), Gamov (16), Sheshenina (2), Fadeev - libero. Substitution: Merkulova, Kabeshova.
Azerbaijan : O.Parkhomenko, Hasanova, Shabovta, E.Parkhomenko, Mammadov, Korkmaz, Korotenko - libero. Substitution: Agaeva.

At the preliminary stage, the Russian team took second place in their group. In the semifinals, the Russians met with the current European champion - Poland. Losing 0: 2 in the sets, the Russian team managed to play five match-bols in the end of the third game, and then even the score, winning the fourth set. And Russian volleyball players failed to win everything, although in the decisive segment of the game they were close to that. The Russian national team lost 2: 3, but nevertheless finished the championship on a positive note, defeating Azerbaijan in the match for bronze.
