Biography
Carlos Bagger was born in Barcelona in 1768. Little is known about its origin. He was the nephew of Francesco Mariner, organist of the Cathedral in Barcelona. Uncle and became his mentor in music.
In the incomplete 18 years, since 1786, Bagger began to replace him in his work. And after the death of Mariner, in 1789, Bagger was appointed organ organ of the Council, which he held until his death.
Interpretations and improvisations for the organ brought him great fame, but the most important contribution lies in his work as a composer.
The works of Baghera make it together with Luigi Boccherini and Gaetano Brunetti , the main symphonist of Spain in the classical era.
Most of his symphonies are clearly written under the influence of Italian and German masters - including Joseph Haydn and Pleyel .
Some of his students became quite famous musicians: Matthew Ferrer, who replaced Bagger as organist of the Council, Ramon Karnitzer (between 1806 and 1808) and, possibly, Bernat Bertrand.
He died in 1808, on the day when French troops occupied the fortress of Barcelona.
Bagger created 19 symphonies, 10 oratorios, sonatas for piano, trumpets, and spiritual music.
