Biography
He worked at the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (in 1990), the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (1990-1991), the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (1992-1993), the University. Erasmus of Rotterdam (1993-1997).
He is one of the founders of the National Research University of the Higher School of Economics , where in 1994 he created the Laboratory for Organizational Behavior and Development, which became the basis for the formation in the HSE of the entire direction of research on the behavior and strategies of Russian enterprises and firms. He is the founder of the modern Russian school of teaching strategic management (First prize of the RABO-NFPC for the best program in the field of strategic management) (1998).
I. B. Gurkov is known as the author of numerous publications in domestic and foreign journals on the strategies of Russian corporations and firms. His scientific monograph Adaptation of an Industrial Firm (M: HSE, 1997) was characterized by the journal Expert in the following words: “The survey of privatized Russian enterprises ended with a series of brilliant micro-discoveries” (V. Krasnova. Little Sensations. Expert, 04/13/1998). The textbook of I. B. Gurkov “Strategy and Corporate Structure” was included in the list of the Top 10 books of 2006 in business in the nomination “The Best Book of a Russian Author” and in the review “Best Books for Business” (M, EKSMO, 2009).
Foreign publications by I. Gurkov, including in the journals Journal for East European Management Studies, Post-Communist Economies, International Studies of Management and Organization, International Executive and other publications are actively cited by foreign researchers ( cumulative citation index in Web of Science = 52 - first place among Russian authors in management).
