Content
History
The street is named after a lawyer, Ossetian publisher, public figure of pre-revolutionary Ossetia and the first Ossetian mayor of Vladikavkaz, Georgy (Gappo) Vasilevich Baev .
The street was formed in the middle of the XIX century. Marked on the map of the city as Krasnoryorskaya street . In the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, various trade, meat shops and manufacturing shops were located on the street. In the house number 20 lived the family of priest Alexy Gatuyev, in whose family Ossetian enlightener Afanasy Abievich Gatuyev was born. In the house number 65 at the corner of Baku Street (today Pavlenko Street) lived the Gazdanov family, in which the Ossetian writer Gaito Gazdanov was born.
On October 25, 1922, by decree of the Executive Committee meeting of the Vladikavkaz City Council of Workers ', Peasants' and Red Army Deputies (Minutes No. 41, p. 1), Krasnoryanskaya Street was renamed Svoboda Street: “In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Executive Committee decided to rename the ul. Krasnoryadskaya street Freedom. [one]
On March 25, 1993, by the decision of the Small Council of the Vladikavkaz Council of People's Deputies (Minutes No. 14, § 21), Svoboda Street was renamed Gappo Baev Street: “Rename Svoboda Street (between Svoboda Square and Koltsova Street. Beginning of Svoboda Square) into the first street Ossetian mayor Gappo Baev, who played an invaluable role in the development of our capital. To call it henceforth Gappo Baeva Street. ” [2]

Along Gappo Bayev Street from Shtyba Square to Freedom Square since 1934, trams run along the single track line. Oncoming trams go along the parallel street Chermen Baev .
