Sangushko

Sangushko ( Polish Sanguszko ) - Volyn princely family from among the Gediminids , who by the middle of the XVIII century had accumulated huge land holdings, including Ostrog ordination . In the 19th and 20th centuries, the main centers of Sangushko’s possessions were Slavuta and Izyaslav in Volyn. In memory of them, “Prince Sangushko” beer is produced in Slavut and there is Prince Sangushko Street. With few exceptions, representatives of the clan preferred to spend time on their Volyn estates and did not play a big role in the fate of the Polish-Lithuanian state.

Origin

In the genealogical literature, several opinions have developed about the origin of the Sangushko clan: some consider it the ancestor of his Lyubart Gediminovich , others - Fedor Olgerdovich . Representatives of the genus themselves fluctuated between these versions, from the 17th century calling themselves either Lyubartovich-Sangushko, or Olgerdovich-Sangushko.

The most plausible opinion is that of J. Wolf , who produces Sangushko from Prince Fedkovich, who in the middle of the 15th century owned the villages of Ratno and Kovel . Obviously, his name Sangush is a rare diminutive of “Alexander” (or “Semyon”). His sons Alexander (d. Circa 1491 ) and Michael (d. Circa 1511 ) were the ancestors of two lines of this family: Koshirsko-Nesuhoizhskaya and Kovelskaya. The first line, which owned the Koshira volost , died out in 1653 , the second line is now still represented by one prince Sangushko , born in 1973 , living in São Paulo . In addition, Sangushko Fedorovich had sons Vasily and Ivan [1] . In 1452, Ivan Sangushkovich received the Gardens estate from the Grand Duke of Lithuania Casimir IV Jagiellonian, which already in 1565, during the census of the Lithuanian army, was the Sadovsky family estate.
