Bystrinsky Loach

Bystrinsky Golets , Barun-Shabartuy ^[1] - a mountain peak and a natural monument ^[2] in the Krasnochikoy district of the Trans-Baikal Territory of Russia . The highest point of the Khentei-Daur Highlands (2519 m).

The Buryat name of the loach - Barun-Shabarta is translated as “ western mud ” or “ left mud ”.

Bystrinsky Golets is located on the Chikokonsky ridge . The name of the mountain is due to the fact that the Bystraya River flows from its slopes. Next to the mountain there is a rocky tract , reminiscent of the ruins of a stone fortress - Lamsky Gorodok .

Glacial landforms are widespread. The rivers flowing down the mountain are rapids, there are waterfalls . There are lakes in the moraine-driven valleys . According to calculations, the annual precipitation in the upper parts of the taiga zone reaches 600–800 mm. The bottoms of the valleys of large rivers up to an altitude of 1400 m are occupied by meadows , yerniks , and swamps . Along the steep southern slopes, steppes rise to a height of 1600 m. In some places, from 1400 m begins the pre-alpine woodland with cedar elfin . Cedars and the first traces of sables are found from a height of 1350 m. At this height, roe deer and wolves cease to be found in winter. The upper border of the forest is formed by cedars . The mountain taiga extends to an altitude of 1700–1800 m. Above 1900–2000 m, loaches dominate.
