Siltepec ( Spanish Siltepec ) is a municipality in Mexico , the state of Chiapas , with the administrative center in the city of the same name . The population, according to the 2010 census, was 38,143 people.

Content
General Information
The name Siltepec can be translated from Nahuatl as a shell-shaped mountain .
The area of the municipality is equal to 685.6 km², which is 0.9% of the area of the state. It is bordered by other municipalities of Chiapas : in the north, Chicomuselo , in the east, Bella Vista and La Grandesa , in the south, El Porvenir , Motosintela and Escuintla , in the west, Mapastepek , and in the northwest, Angel-Albino-Corso [3] .

The municipality was formed in 1915 [4] , it includes 182 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic Activity
The working population is employed by sector in the following proportions: agriculture and animal husbandry - 85.1%, manufacturing and manufacturing industry - 2.9%, services and tourism - 9.9% [4] .
Infrastructure
According to statistics from 2000, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- road length: 317.3 km;
- electrification: 78.1%;
- water supply: 49.5%;
- water disposal: 51.3%.
Tourism
The main attractions are the natural landscapes, due to the location of the municipality in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas [4] .
