Kineshma Diocese

On May 11, 1866, the report of the Most Holy Governing Synod on the opening of the Kineshma vicariate of the Kostroma diocese was approved by Emperor Alexander II ^[6] .

In 1928-1929, the Kineshma region became the center of Josephite activity. In Kineshma itself, Joseph was a cathedral (rector - Konstantin Razumov). A true Orthodox Bishop Nikolai (Golubev) lived in retirement near the city. In 1929, he received an appointment from Archbishop Dimitrius (Lyubimov) from the leader of the Leningrad Josephites to Kineshma. On June 7, 2012, by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church , the Kineshma eparchy was formed, with the separation of its territory from the Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya structure and the inclusion of the diocese into the newly formed Ivanovo metropolis ^[3] . According to Archpriest Andrei Efanov, a diocesan cleric, the diocese began “from scratch”: the rural parishes numbered no more than 5–10 permanent parishioners, and the urban parishes 15–50. The newly appointed bishop had neither a house nor a room to spend the night ^[8] .
