Geography and History
Middlesex County is located in Connecticut , off the east coast of the United States. Its area is 1.137 km², of which 181 km² are water bodies. Middlesex borders New Haven , Hartford and New London counties. The administrative center of the district is the city of Middeltown . His other cities are Clinton , Cromwell , East Hampton , East Haddam , Old Saybrook and Portland .
Middlesex County was formed in 1785 from parts of New London and Hartford counties.
Demographics
The district is home to 155,071 people (as of 2000). Ethnicly, 91.28% of the inhabitants are white Americans, 4.42% are blacks, 3% are Hispanics, 1.56% are Asian, 0.17% are Indians. For every 100 females there are 95.1 males. The average annual per capita income is $ 28.251. 54.4% of the population are married. The average age of the district residents is 39 years. 4.6% of people living in the okrug have incomes below the official poverty line.
