History

According to the official website of the State Academic Chapel of St. Petersburg, its symphony orchestra maintains continuity with the Court Orchestra (Court Music Choir), founded in 1882, on the basis of which the orchestra, known today as the Honored Collective of Russia, the Academic Symphony Orchestra , was later created St. Petersburg Philharmonic " [1] .

In its modern form, the St. Petersburg Capella Symphony Orchestra was created on November 1, 1991. People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Chernushenko , who has been leading the team since its inception, is a pupil of the Glinka Choir School at the Leningrad State Academic Chapel , and a graduate of the Leningrad Conservatory.

The Capella Symphony Orchestra has outstanding soloists who have been awarded at various Russian and international competitions. The collective is recognized and sympathetic by the wide audience of Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Finland and other countries. Prominent conductors and performers of our time collaborate with the orchestra. More than 50 CDs, in the creation of which the Capella Orchestra took part, have been published in different countries of the world. The most notable project was the recording by the orchestra and the Chapel of the Capella of the works of Mikis Theodorakis , as well as the recording of works for the largest sound recording concerns “ Chandos ” and “ Naxos ”.

The main task of the Capella Symphony Orchestra considers the performance of Russian music, in particular, undeservedly forgotten works. The team is working on a number of ambitious projects. Over the course of several seasons, almost all Beethoven’s orchestral works were performed by the Capella Symphony Orchestra. Today the St. Petersburg Chapel Orchestra and its conductor are able to set ever more serious tasks. This is not only the performance of complex and rarely performed works, but also successful experiments beyond classical music. Among the most interesting creative experiments of the Capella Orchestra are joint performances with Boris Grebenshchikov , Deep Purple lead singer Jan Gillan , guitarist and composer Mike Oldfield , Gennady Gladkov's anniversary evening, as well as a series of symphonic-jazz concerts.

Over the years of its activity, the St. Petersburg Capella Symphony Orchestra has become one of the leading collectives in Russia, having a large number of proposals from performers and composers.
