Operation "Sovereignty" ( Spanish: Soberania ) is a failed military operation of the Argentine army in 1978 during the Argentine-Chilean conflict over the islands of in the Beagle Channel .

History
The operation was planned by the Argentine military due to Chile's refusal to reconsider the issue of islands. At the border of these states, air provocations became more frequent. Argentina was supported by European countries. The USA refrained from any action.
The operation was canceled at the last moment. Cardinal Antonio Zamore, representative of the Holy See, seated Videla and Pinochet at the negotiating table.
