History
The project was created by Diplo in collaboration with a DJ and producer of Switch. They met while working with the MIA singer. The debut album of the duet Guns Don't Kill People ... Lazers Do was released June 16, 2009 on Downtown Records . It was recorded at the Jamaican studio Tuff Gong with the participation of such vocalists as Santigold , Vybz Kartel , Ward 21 , Busy Signal , Nina Sky , Amanda Blank , Mr. Vegas , Turbulence , TOK , and Afrojack and Crookers [2] [3] helped produce the disc. “Hold the Line” was the first single from the album, and the video was nominated for an MTV award in the “ Breakthrough Video ” category.
On June 20, 2010, the project released the Lazers Never Die mini-album, which included two new songs and three remixes from Tom York and others. They remixed the mix.
The paths of Diplo and Switch diverged in 2011. Diplo continued to work on the project with other music artists and DJs, and he invited Jillionaire and Walshy Fire as DJs and artists.
In March 2016, more than 450,000 people gathered at a major Lazer performance in Havana [4] .
In early June 2019, it became known that Jillionaire left the group and Ape Drums took its place.
