Phyllodon henkeli
Thulborn, 1973

In 1973 - 1975, Richard Talborn described and named this dinosaur based on a fossil tooth, found in the sixties by Siegfried Henkel in the territory of Leiria County, as a type species of Phyllodon henkeli . The name of the genus comes from other Greek. φυλλον , phyllon - “leaf” and ὀδών , odon - “tooth”. The designation of the species is given in honor of the discoverer.

The holotype, MGSP G5, was found in the Kimmeridge layers of the Guimarato formation . It consists of fragments of teeth and jaw. Due to the fragmented nature of the remains, Phyllodon is labeled nomen dubium . Oliver Rauhut, however, notes that these teeth are not rare in the formation and have been encountered quite frequently since the 18th century .

According to Richard Taluorn, the species Phyllodon henkeli is assigned to the Hypsilophodontidae family. This group is currently regarded as paraphyletic (unnatural), and therefore the species is classified as a group of Euornithopoda .
