Krupnov, Eugene Ignatievich

Eugene Ignatievich Krupnov (March 16 (29), 1904 , Mozdok - September 29, 1970 , Moscow ) - Soviet archaeologist , Doctor of Historical Sciences (1961), Professor (1964). Honored Scientist of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1964) and the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1952.

He graduated from high school in Mozdok. In 1924 he entered the ethnological department of the North Caucasian Pedagogical Institute in Vladikavkaz . In 1927 he transferred to the historical and archaeological department of the ethnological faculty of Moscow University (he graduated in 1930 with a degree in “Archeology of the Caucasus”).

In 1929-1951, he was a researcher at the State Historical Museum (GIM) in Moscow .

Since 1937, part-time worked at the Institute of the History of Material Culture of the USSR Academy of Sciences (IIMK) (later - the Institute of Archeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences).

After the start of World War II, he joined the people's militia and went to the front as a private soldier of the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Lenin Division. From December 1941 to August 1945 he served as an ordinary 33 spare rifle division as a lecturer in the political department .

In August 1945, he was demobilized and reinstated in the GIM and the Moscow branch of the IIMK AS USSR as a senior researcher.

In 1951-1960 - deputy director of the IIMK-IA of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, in 1963-1970 - head of the Neolithic and Bronze sectors.

The main works are devoted to ancient and medieval archeology and history of the North Caucasus and the ethnogenesis of the Caucasian peoples .

Awards and honors

In 1963 he was awarded the Lenin Prize for his work “The Ancient History of the North Caucasus” ( 1960 ).

Honored Scientist of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ( 1964 ). Honored Scientist of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic ( 1967 ).

He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and medals.

Memory

  • By the decree of the President of the Republic of Ingushetia M. Zyazikov dated May 15, 2008, the name of E. I. Krupnov was given to one of the streets of Magas and the archaeological center of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Ingushetia.
  • Krupnov readings - an international conference on archeology of the North Caucasus (from 1971 to the present).
  • In the capital of the Republic of Ingushetia, Magas, on April 19, 2014, the opening of the square named after E.I. Krupnov, in which his bust is installed. [one]
