History
The research vessel (NIS) Akademik Boris Petrov was built in 1984 at the shipyard of AO O Hollming (Finland) at the request of V / O Sudoimport for the USSR Academy of Sciences.
The 2600 T Series also included vessels [1] :
- Academician Nikolai Strakhov (ship)
- Academician M.A. Lavrentiev (ship)
- Academician Oparin (ship)
The vessel is designed to study the hydrophysical features of the ocean, the structure of the ocean floor and atmospheric layers adjacent to the ocean surface.
The ship was designed and built according to the rules of the USSR Register for an unlimited navigation area with the symbol KM * L1 I A2. Home port - Kaliningrad.
The vessel is named after Academician Boris Nikolayevich Petrov (1913-1980), a Soviet scientist in the field of automatic control.
The ship carried out 42 expeditions mainly with foreign scientists. The crew has experience in various regions of the oceans, including the Arctic and Antarctica.
Shipowner: GEOKHI named after V.I. Vernadsky RAS. The research vessel Akademik Boris Petrov returned to Kaliningrad after repairs in China. In 2017, the NIS, on the basis of the order of the FANO, was transferred to IO them. Shirshova RAS
