Engels Peak is a mountain peak on the Shahdara Range , in the southwest of the Pamir in Tajikistan .

Engels Peak is composed mainly of gneisses and crystalline schists . The height of the peak reaches 6510 m. There are glaciers in the area of the peak, on the northern and southern slopes of the ridge of the Shakhdara ridge. The Naspar glacier is located at the northern base of the peak, and Kishtijarob at the southern base . The summit was first conquered in 1954 [2] [3] .
The peak's original name is Empress Maria's Peak . It was given at the end of the 19th century by one of the first Russian explorers of the southern part of the Pamirs in honor of the wife of Emperor Alexander III Maria Fedorovna . In Soviet times, the peak was renamed in honor of the theorist of communism Friedrich Engels .
