DescriptionMaleo reaches a length of 55 cm. The plumage is predominantly black, the bare skin of the face is yellow, the irises are reddish-brown, the beak is reddish-orange, the belly is pink. Helmet crest adorns the top of the head. On the gray-blue toes, separated by membrane-like skin, there are 4 long, sharp claws. Outwardly, both sexes are similar, only females are slightly smaller and their plumage is paler.
SpreadMaleo inhabits tropical plains and mountain forests.
PowerMeal nutrition consists mainly of fruits, seeds, ants, termites, beetles and other small invertebrates.
ReproductionMaleo monogamous , a couple is created for life. Maleo builds nests on open sandy landscapes, volcanic soil or on beaches. Maleo eggs are about five times more chicken. The female lays each egg in a deep hole in the sand and provides the sun or volcanic heat to warm the clutch. After hatching, the chicks make their way through the sand and hide in the forest. Young birds can fly and are completely independent of their parents. They are independently seeking food and are protected from predators such as lizards, pythons, boars or cats.
