Biography

After graduating from university, he entered the Danish civil service as secretary of the embassy and in this position between 1810-1814 was in Stockholm , Vienna , Paris , and the summer of 1813, for his sympathy for the Germans, he spent in the Friedrichsort fortress.

Later, he took a long journey to Italy , France and Greece , and since 1827 he lived mostly in Dresden, where he participated in translating the works of Shakespeare into German, undertaken by Schlegel and Tick . Baudissin also translated four Shakespeare's teenage works published by Tick: Eduard III , Thomas Cromwell, Oldcastle, and Der Londoner Verschwender (Stuttgart, 1836).

On his own, Baudissin published a series of translations of the old English dramas under the name "Ben Ionson und seine Schule" (2 volumes, Leipzig, 1836). Since then, Baudissin also turned to works of old German literature, published Hartmann von der Aue 's Iwien mit dem Löwen (Berlin, 1845) and Wirth von Gravenberg's Wigalois (Leipzig, 1848). Finally, Baudissin also translated the comedies of Moliere (4 vol., Leipzig, 1865–67), in which he transmitted the places written in Alexandrian poems, using the five- stop iambus to the German scene. He also owns the translation of "Dramatische Sprichwörter" by Karmanthel and Leclerc (2 t., Leipzig, 1875).
